What is
play
play /ˈpleɪ/ noun
Play is a state that frees you from ______
A: Pain
B: Boredom
C: Stress
D: All of the above
It's FUN
And when we are having fun, we don't have limits.
We forget pain, stress, roles, rules and anything else that keeps us from being at peace within ourselves. Play carries us into another dimension, one free from expectation, a space where we get to be different.
Play cannot be forced. It happens of its own accord, spontaneously, every time. It is an expression that rises from somewhere alive in us, naïve and completely in flow with life. Children spend most of their time playing, and they are, without question, the ones who enjoy life the most. Play is necessary for our well-being.
We began to play long before we began to speak. It served as a form of communication, even across species. You have no formal agreement with your dog, yet it loves bringing back whatever you throw. When we play, we explore reality and prepare ourselves for the real world, which is why we've kept this instinct through evolution.
